The purpose of having a “Zion Cause Statement” is to align both our love & our work towards God and His cause.

Think of affirmation statements or vision boards you’ve created in your life. Most seem to be created with self-centeredness in mind. There may be some elements of God, and of others, but most seem to be centered around the “me” mentality. I’m going to outline some of the elements of why switching it up and having a Zion Cause affirmation statement aligns with becoming pure in heart.

Here are some ideas of resources to pull from in creating a Zion Cause Statement:

  • The scriptures (characteristic traits you see in others that you’d like to mirror)
  • Patriarchal blessings (what gifts & talents has the Lord blessed you with that you can focus on practicing in your life?)
  • Priesthood blessings (you can ask for a blessing to help guide your statement. Record your blessings; pray and ponder over what you feel the Spirit is encouraging you to focus on.)
  • Study the gifts of the spirit 1 Corinthians 12:1-12Moroni 10:8-18Doctrine & Covenants 46:7-33. Are there any gifts that you’d like to work on implementing in your life? What other gifts would you like to seek after that you haven’t received?)
  • Study the teachings of modern-day prophets and apostles for additional gifts (One example is a talk from Elder Bednar called “Quick to Observe.” He mentions a talk given by Elder Marvin J. Ashton in the October 1987 General conference entitled “There Are Many Gifts.” Elder Ashton mentions a list of gifts we typically don’t think of as gifts that we can consider as well.)
  • Study the Gospel Principles manual Chapter 22 (“The Gifts Of The Spirit”).
  • You could Spirit Study (see the section on this website called “Spirit Study”) and read, ponder, and pray on ways we can shift our love more to God and learn how we can put His cause first in our lives…The Cause of Zion.

Here are a few ideas for the creation of a Zion Cause Statement:

  • Write out the characteristic traits, gifts, and ways you want to become a better disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Write the words out in the present tense (even if they don’t exist yet in your life).
  • Attach emotion to the words that you write to give them more meaning.
  • Print off the statement and hang it up where you’ll see it daily.
  • Read it aloud day & night.
  • Print off a collage of pictures that represent the items inside of the statement you created in a vision board form (seeing is believing).
  • There are apps and other resources you can use to simulate reading and visualizing an affirmation statement (some have music attached while you review it).
  • You can replicate the process with your children. You can create a rewards calendar/system for them repeating their statement aloud every day.

To understand more of how the subconscious mind can be reprogrammed in conjunction with the creation of your own cause statement, you can review the following three “Finger Tips” in my book “Leaving People Better” that I wrote back in 2018 found on a separate tab on this website:

  • P. 23 “Creating a Cause”
  • P. 26 “The Subconscious Mind”
  • P. 30 “The Cause Statement”
